Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry In Fishers, IN

It is normal to feel anxious or even scared when going to the dentist. Many people have a fear of the dentist or that they prefer to never get treatment due to their anxiousness and fear. For these individuals, dental sedation can help alleviate the anxiety that accompanies dental visits.

At Northpoint Dental Care, we offer sedation methods to ensure a comfortable and anxiety-free experience during every visit. Sedation dentistry is an option for patients to receive treatment to gain healthy and beautiful smiles without fear or anxiety.

What Are the Different Types of Sedation?

At our Fishers dental practice, we offer two types of sedation for some our comprehensive procedures and smile makeovers – oral conscious sedation and nitrous oxide sedation. While both help to calm patients, they each work differently, providing patients different treatment options.

Oral conscious sedation is administered via pill and helps patients feel sleepy yet allows them to remain awake. With larger doses of sedation, patients may end up feeling like the procedure has gone by quickly, allowing them to undergo multiple treatments in just one visit. Oral conscious sedation is ideal for patients facing multiple treatments in one visit as well as those with serious dental anxiety. While the effects of sedation do wear off fairly soon after treatment, patients will need a friend or family member to help them back home after their visit to our practice.

Also known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide sedation is administered through a mask. This light sedation is ideal for patients who may not suffer from full-blown anxiety but still need a little help getting through dental treatments. As the medication wears off soon after it's been administered, most patients are able to drive themselves home after their treatment.

For some patients, deep sedation or general anesthesia is needed to ensure maximum patient comfort. For patients facing extensive oral surgery, lengthy smile makeover, or individuals with serious dental anxiety or phobia, our Fishers dentist works with local anesthesiologists to provide intravenous sedation. Under this form of deep sedation, patients are almost or completely unconscious. As a result, this option is often only recommended in serious cases.

At Northpoint Dental Care, we committed to ensuring your comfort throughout every phase of care. By using local anesthetics as well as appropriate sedation for each patient, our dental team is able to provide comfortable care during every visit.
